Below is a short guide to keeping your Jewellery looking at its best!!

Tarnishing

Tarnishing is the unavoidable process that causes discolouration in Silver Jewellery. It happens as soon as Sterling Silver comes into contact with Oxygen and after a time will discolour your jewellery if not cared for correctly.

The best way to avoid and remove discolouration is to regularly use a non-abrasive cleaning cloth specifically made for Sterling Silver. Most cloths are made of cotton which have been impregnated with a silver cleaner & anti tarnish agent.

It is possible to use an old SOFT toothbrush and some toothpaste to remove tarnish from silver but in my experience you cannot beat a silver polishing cloth.

General Cleaning

Should your Jewellery becomes listless and need a little uplift, mild soapy water can help keep your silver looking good, but won’t remove any tarnishing.

You should never put your silver jewellery into chlorine or salt water as this can deteriorate and discolour the silver.

It is important to remember not to dry silver off with a paper towel or tissues, and to always use a soft cloth.

Also Jewellery should be completely dry when put away.

Storage

When you are not wearing your  jewellery, store it in a cool, dry place.

It is best to keep each piece in a separate bag, preferably an air-tight one. This will not only help to avoid tarnishing to Silver jewellery but also keep items untangled and prevent scratches.

General Care

Pearls should be kept separate from all other types of Jewellery. These are very soft and scratches can be picked up very easily.

Any Pearls or Stones which have been set should never be immersed in water as this can loosen the glue and cause the Pearls/Stones to detach.

Body sprays, perfumes, deodorants and hairspray can all increase the tarnishing process and deteriorate pearls and gemstones. It is for this reason it is best to put on your Jewellery at the last minute.
